Ncam is a pioneering developer of augmented reality (AR) solutions, offering innovative camera tracking technology that enhances real-time visual effects in film, broadcast, and live events. YFM Equity Partners first invested in Ncam in March 2018, from British Smaller companies and Growth funds. Recognising the company’s ambition, innovative product roadmap, and potential in a vast market, YFM provided strategic support to help Ncam navigate early-stage product challenges and cost-intensive development.

By late 2019, YFM began exploring opportunities to position the business for strategic growth leading to a partnership with Zeiss in 2020.

During YFM’s partnership, Ncam accomplished key milestones despite significant market challenges:

• Advanced product development, culminating in the launch of innovative AR solutions for the film industry.
• Secured a strategic partnership with Zeiss, a global leader in optics, to support R&D and market penetration.
• Maintained operational resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic, navigating delays and cash flow constraints.
• Refocused business strategy to prioritise the film market, aligning resources with core growth opportunities.

Outcome

In April 2023, Zeiss fully acquired Ncam to fully integrate its AR technology into Zeiss’s global operations. The transaction marked a strategic outcome for YFM’s investors, reflecting the culmination of a multi-year collaboration that positioned Ncam for long-term success in a challenging market.
