How Resulting IT became world’s first B-CORP SAP Consultancy
The Starting Point
Becoming a B Corp isn’t something you do for the badge. Not if you’re doing it properly.
It’s a long, detailed, occasionally painful process that forces you to look at every corner of your business and ask:
“Are we genuinely doing the right thing, and can we prove it?”
For Resulting IT, that question became the spark that kicked off an 18-month journey.
To understand how they did it, we spoke with Marianne Häggström, Senior HR Business Partner, about the journey she took alongside Simon Davies, Programme Manager and the Resulting IT team.
“B Corp means putting people and planet on an equal footing with profit.”
“B Corp certification is the gold standard when it comes to responsible business. To us it means putting people and planet on an equal footing with profit. From the start, B Corp felt like the right kind of challenge for us. Becoming a B Corp isn’t just about a badge; it’s about embedding purpose into the way we work every day.”
It meant revisiting everything from governance to culture, making sure their values were hardwired into the business, not just written on the wall.
1. The Spark: “Why not aim for the gold standard?”
B Corp wasn’t a throwaway idea, but it did begin with a throwaway comment.
In one of Resulting’s first board meetings with YFM in summer 2023, someone casually asked:
“So, what are your ESG plans?”
Stuart Browne, founder and CEO, replied without hesitation:
“B Corp is the gold standard. We should aim for that, right?”
At the time, it felt glib… but the idea stuck.
“Once I dug into what B Corp actually involved, I realised just how big a commitment it was. There were definitely a few moments where I thought, ‘What have we signed up for?’ especially when I understood the depth of the governance requirements. But the ambition felt right for the business, and YFM were supportive of us pursuing it, which gave us the confidence to keep going.” Stuart shared when he announced the B Corp certification via LinkedIn.
And the motivation behind it?
A mix, but values led the way.
“Our team genuinely believes business can be a force for good, and B Corp gave us a framework to prove it. For customers, it’s a mark of trust; for talent, it’s a signal of who we are and what we stand for… It’s ended up being a unifying goal that reshaped how we think, work and measure success.”
2 "The B-CORP journey started with a self assessment"
Before completing a single form, the team immersed themselves in B Lab’s resources. Then came the self-assessment.
“Barely 60% on the first pass.”
80% plus is the threshold you need to score before you can even start to think about submission
That score was the wake-up call. It revealed:
- how much evidence would be needed
- which areas needed strengthening
- and how many people had to get involved
Finance, Ops, People, Strategy, everyone had a part to play. With a special mention to Robert Willemse – he was truly a driving force behind the success.
Some elements were unexpectedly smooth:
“Getting set up and navigating the self-assessment tool was surprisingly simple.”
But most of it was anything but.
As a consulting business, Resulting didn’t naturally rack up environmental points. They had to get creative:
“We were digging deep for every point, battery recycling, lightbulb recycling… anything that demonstrated proactive effort.”
Then came the evidence gathering:
“Collecting evidence was painstaking. Some documents didn’t exist; others weren’t signed off. We had to create processes from scratch.”
It was time-consuming, but it forced Resulting to strengthen governance and build the foundations fast-growing companies often neglect.
3. Highs & Lows: “Not getting over the line was never an option.”
When asked whether they ever doubted the outcome, the answer was immediate:
“Not getting over the line was never an option. If we start something, we will see it through.”
They treated the process like a marathon, not a sprint:
- carving out time around busy schedules
- accepting slow progress as part of the journey
- returning to the “why” when motivation dipped
And something unexpected happened:
“We were surprised by how determined people were… the commitment they gave outside their day job to make this happen.”
It wasn’t a box-ticking project.
It became a cultural moment.
4. The Impact: What B Corp Really Changed
B Corp certification didn’t transform Resulting’s identity; it validated it.
For their people:
“It reinforces that they’re part of a company that stands for something bigger than profit.”
For customers and partners:
“It strengthens trust in a verified, credible way… showing we operate transparently and take our impact seriously.”
For recruitment:
“It’s a huge advantage, more people want to work for companies with purpose built into their DNA.”
For growth:
“It positions us to win work with clients who care about impact as well as outcomes.”
And day to day?
“It doesn’t change who we are it sharpens how we measure and hold ourselves accountable.”
From a brand perspective, B Corp reinforces Resulting’s identity as independent, ethical and people-focused, helping them stand out in the SAP consulting space.
B Corp isn’t a new direction. It’s a clarified one.
5. Lessons for Other Founders: “It’s not a sprint.”
If Resulting could give one piece of advice to other founders:
“Give yourself plenty of time. Avoid unrealistic expectations. It’s very much a marathon, not a sprint.”
They registered in April 2024
and certified in September 2025 under the old standards.
New applicants will face the tougher eight-area framework, and Resulting is already preparing for recertification.
Their biggest learning?
“We should have been more formal with resource planning. Too much fell on the same people who already had day jobs.”
What they’d repeat?
- the commitment
- the persistence
- the teamwork
And the greatest benefit?
“The credible, third-party validation of our positive impact, on people and on the planet.”
Final Thoughts
Resulting IT didn’t become a B Corp because it was fashionable.
They did it because it aligned with who they were, and who they want to be.
Their journey shows the reality behind the badge:
- the spreadsheets
- the governance work
- the evidence hunts
- the late-night document chases
- and the pride that comes when the organisation steps up
This is the kind of story founders need to hear, not perfection, but persistence.
