As part of the celebration of its new offices in Birmingham, YFM Equity Partners (YFM) has made a donation of almost £1,600 to KidsOut which works in the region and across the UK, providing positive experiences to thousands of disadvantaged children.
Having had a base in Birmingham for a number of years, in January 2022, YFM moved to new offices in the city, located in The Boutique Workplace, Bennetts Hill. The team, led by investment director Stephen Murray, wanted to mark the occasion by supporting a worthwhile local cause as part of its commitment to the region.
In March, YFM used a drinks reception attended by colleagues and guests from across the local business community to raise funds for the charity. A raffle and auction with prizes donated by some of the companies within the YFM portfolio, past and present, including Tonkotsu, Gill Marine, The Protein Works and PMT (Professional Music Technology), succeeded in raising funds for the charity. The YFM team then decided to boost its fundraising by nominating KidsOut as the firm’s chosen charity for April, adding another £1,000 to its donation.
“Having attended other KidsOut fundraising events, their cause really resonates with me,” explains YFM investment director Stephen Murray. “I have a young daughter myself and we are very fortunate that we can take her out and give her the ‘normal’ experiences that children enjoy. There are many children out there who don’t have the same opportunities through no fault of their own – so I really like what KidsOut do for those children.
“Many thanks to the local business community for getting behind us as we grow YFM’s presence in the region and for helping us to use our office move as an opportunity to give something back by supporting such a vital charity.”
Sue Jean Chen, fundraising assistant for KidsOut, comments: “We rely on the generosity of individuals and businesses to help us to bring fun and happiness into the lives of disadvantaged children. This amazing donation from YFM will enable us to take 100 children to the cinema as well as funding around 100 toys for our toy boxes service – thank you.”
KidsOut is a small charity based in Leighton Buzzard which dates back to 1990, growing out of the Rotary Clubs across the UK who host National Rotary KidsOut Day every June which has become the biggest single outing for disadvantaged children in the UK. As well as taking tens of thousands of children on a fun day, the charity provides thousands more with a toy box.
