The £112m acquisition of Go Outdoors by Bury-headquartered sportswear retailer JD Sports has been named North West Business Insider’s Deal of the Month for November 2016.
At the end of the month, listed company JD Sports announced the purchase of Go Outdoors for £112.3m in cash. It also assumed net debts of approximately £16m as part of the transaction.
The deal provided an exit for Go Outdoors founders Paul Caplan and John Graham, who established the chain in 1998.
Based in Sheffield, Go Outdoors was backed by YFM Equity Partners and latterly 3i Group. YFM backed an original management buyout of Camping and Caravanning Centre in 1998, and 3i invested £28m in the company in 2011.
